What dogs do

What do dogs do when their owners are busy? Sleep. Snooze. Look around.

I see a lot of ads on Craigslist from people giving away their animals. "Don't have time." "Took a job, feel bad at neglecting my dog." "Moving soon. Dog doesn't get enough attention."

We can't know who will be taking care of our animals when they're not with us. Both our dogs are "rescues" from CL, families who couldn't take care of the doggies. So there are good homes out here.  We've rehomed two other dogs that fit into friends' homes, too.

Hope everyone is as careful as the people who gifted us with Missy (formerly Bella) and Ziggy (formerly Frankie). These precious pups have brought me a lot of joy, even though they do spend a lot of time hanging out while I study.

Walkies, anyone? Good doggies!

  1. I am so happy to find your new doggie blog again. Your post about Craigs list and the dogs listed there did pull at my heart. I do hope they all find forever homes or at least taken to the Humane Soc.or P.A.W.S. in there town for good care and adoption. My two girls are rescue pups...Mistaya from Montana and Maggie from here in Aberdeen. They have brought so much joy into our lives and a lot of smiles and humor too!
I read that you are from the Seattle area and have a cabin in Montana...may I ask where the cabin is. We lived in the Bitterroot valley south of Missoula for almost 4 years before moving here to Aberdeen last summer.
You;ve got beautiful dogs and I enjoy reading about them.
Hugs and wags, Gail, Mistaya and Maggie

  2. the cabin is near Kalispell... we love it there. That's not THAT far from Missoula - 2 hrs? I don't usually comment on posts, but like to read about other people's lives with doggies too. I am so thrilled to have the pair we have: it has been a weird 2 years.
First we got Spike. A good friend fell in love with Spike early in the summer; they have a big fenced yard and another bigger dog who gets along great with him. So we let him and his vigorous terrier personality go with them.
We found Missy on CL from a family breaking up. Instant bond - she's a keeper, I don't care WHO loves her :-)
I wanted a second dog for Missy to interact with, and we thought we found an older dog from a breeder, but she proved to be neurotic and we had to send her back. Sigh.

In the summer, we found Zoe, a tiny poodle too little for her 3 youngsters. She was beautifully socialized but hated our long walks and bike rides. She was perfect for our daughter, who has arthritis and walks slowly and short, but every day.

I was hesitant to try again, but Ziggy was being given up by a gal with 5 dogs and knee surgery coming up. Oh, he's a fat little prince. SO much fun. Ziggy's a little fireball who loves to work: he carries a toy along into every room, and can't wait to run and find it when I toss it into nooks and crannies.

Missy... remains a lover. She lives to adore her humans. So we are content and happy together. Funny - 2 poodles the same height and approx size, but Missy's gained a pound, now 8.7. Ziggy the chub is 12.5! and hasn't lost a thing even eating carefully. Paws up to Mistaya and Maggie!
